About
Welcome to a culinary adventure at Yogi Bear's Honey Fried Chicken, where nostalgia meets deliciousness in the heart of Hartsville, South Carolina. Nestled at 514 S 5th St, this charming establishment is a celebration of classic comfort food, particularly their famed chicken wings that have locals and visitors alike raving about the experience.
As a food reviewer for Foodjoyy, I was eager to investigate what makes this quaint spot so beloved. From the moment you walk in, the whimsical Yogi Bear theme envelopes you, creating a cozy, casual atmosphere that's perfect for families and friends. With on-site parking, outdoor seating, and a friendly vibe, it’s clear that Yogi Bear’s is not just a restaurant, but a gathering place.
One of the standout offerings is their honey fried chicken, praised for its perfectly crispy exterior and juicy inside. The seasoning makes all the difference, as noted by satisfied customers. Gerald B., a recurring patron, shared, "The chicken tastes very good. It’s crispy on the outside but not dry on the inside.” This sentiment is echoed throughout numerous reviews, highlighting the commitment to flavor that Yogi Bear's embodies.
However, it's essential to note that Yogi Bear's is not your typical fast food joint. As many reviews reveal, the food may take a little longer to prepare, but the quality is well worth the wait. Steve G. pointed out the importance of ordering ahead for certain items, especially seafood.
As I indulged in a meal myself, I found the pleasure of pouring honey over my chicken, a touch that adds a unique sweetness to each bite. While some diners prefer the nostalgic twist of marinated honey earlier in the cooking process, others appreciate the interactive nature of pouring it themselves.
So, if you find yourself in Hartsville, Yogi Bear's Honey Fried Chicken is a must-try destination. With its delightful fusion of whimsy and flavor, paired with the friendly atmosphere, your taste buds are sure to thank you. Dive in, reconnect with the nostalgia of this one-of-a-kind spot, and savor the flavors that make it a beloved local treasure!
“ Whenever I am in Hartsville, I have to get some chicken here. I ordered a 3 piece chicken. This is not fast food because it takes a while for the food to be served. There are a few places to sit down but it looks like most people call in their orders and pick them up at the drive-thru window. The chicken tastes very good. It's crispy on the outside but not dry on the inside. The seasoning is what makes it good for me. ”
“ Very good fried chicken with many side options. They serve pork chops also. Great desserts ”
“ Great fried chicken. If you want fish or shrimp order ahead! I waited over 30 minutes for the seafood platter. Everything was hot, which it should have been. Also check to make sure your order is complete before leaving, It's an old drive in, so nothing fancy. ”
“ I'm giving five stars because it's a nostalgic piece of history and the last of its kind. After driving two hours to dine here we arrived about 30 minutes before they closed so I attribute this to why our food wasn't the freshest . Love the quirkiness of this place . It's Yogi Bear everything from the name of the combos - I ordered the "Boo Boo basket" to the yogi Bear boxes your order comes in . I love a good themed restaurant . We met a gentleman born and raised in Hartsville who educated us on the history of the restaurant and raved about their food. He was so authentic and genuine in his love for this Yogi Bear restaurant and shared it was his second visit of the day to the restaurant ! I was a bit disappointed that the chicken breading was not already marinated in honey but that you have to pour honey on it yourself . I believe this is different from how it originally was back in the day . Either way , we enjoyed our visit and chat with a local fan . Would recommend and I would go back and try again . PARKING: free parking lot ”
“ Local fried chicken and while it's a chain, it's the last of the restaurants in the chain. I heard about this place from the awesome Atlas Obscura https://www.yelp.com/collection/VTIO7Bny7WQ8nTeD5Jm4yw/ and now I'm finally here. Order at the counter and sadly, they were out of mac & cheese this evening. Instead, it was double cole slaw with my three pieces of chicken. It did not take long for my number to be called and then I was sitting at a table ready to dig in. Chicken was hot and flavorful. A squeeze of hot sauce was a help and then dipping it in their honey. Delicious. The cole slaw was a miss - too much pickle and not very crunchy. It was really good chicken, but if it was a head-to-head comparison, I would choose Bojangles over it. “ This place was close to my hotel and I was looking to try local fried chicken. I ended up ordering a seafood platter with a chicken leg on the side. The chicken was extremely crispy which was great! The seafood was all fried. Not that I expected anything different but too much for me. The staff all had their southern charm and were so pleasant. I didn't come close to finishing my food but happy to be able to try it. One comment is that the south loves their sweet tea. I was hoping for unsweetened tea to drink but they had either sweet tea or sweeter tea. ”
